Christmas 2008 Pictures

Now that it’s the middle of January, I’m finally getting our Christmas pictures up!

Here’s our little tree, all shoved into the corner. We decided to leave the living room open since we were having company over Christmas, so we picked a little tree that could fit into the corner next to the hutch. We loved it though! Emily was rather pleased that SHE was the one to pick it out.

Christmas Eve we spent with Tim’s family as usual, having the traditional Wiener Schnitzel and Spaetzle. It’s one of the best inherited traditions for me in marrying into the McCleary family! Very yummy.

It was a little different this year in that it was the first Christmas that Tim’s folks were living in their retirement home out in Lancaster. There were some tense moments as everyone coped with the change. It will be interesting to see how we all navigate this life transition with our parents getting older. We probably won’t be able to all get together at their place anymore - it’s too overwhelming for Tim’s parents - so we aren’t sure what other years will look like, but for this year at least it was nice to all be together at their place.

Christmas morning was spent at our house, where we opened our gifts to each other.

We decided to let the kids try to stay up on New Year’s Eve for the first time. They lasted a good long while! At around 11, Daniel went up and got his pillow and sleeping bag, and Emily followed suit. Daniel fell asleep around 11:30, but Emily made it through until midnight. When she saw how cute we thought Daniel was asleep on the floor she decided to pretend to be asleep too...but she wasn’t. Emily was sooooo excited when the New Year came. People were setting off fireworks outside and yelling “Happy New Year!” and it was all very exciting.

New Year’s Day was Tim’s parents’ 5th anniversary, and his whole family came over to celebrate. We had a great time, and though his mom said it might be the last time they’ll come our way (because the trip is too long) - we hope that’s not true!!
